🔗 Unlocking DeFi Potential: Role of Finality Bridge in Bitcoin’s Future
“The BVM bridge is the third-generation Bitcoin bridging solution technology. We have wrapped Bitcoin, which relies on an older multisig setup—a federation of signers where the majority must be honest. However, it’s clear that we can’t rely on wrapped Bitcoin as a long-term bridging solution. We need a new generation of technology that is more trust-minimized and doesn’t depend on the current multisig structure to bridge Bitcoin liquidity from Bitcoin Layer 1 (L1) to EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) or other programmable environments,” Charlie Hu told BeInCrypto.

02

Alexei Zamyatin, co-founder of BOB, discusses BitVM’s role in enabling BOB’s trust-minimized security model and bridging Bitcoin with Ethereum infrastructure. BitVM is presented as key to BOB’s hybrid Layer 2 design.

Galaxy Research analyzes Bitcoin’s potential next major upgrades: OP_CAT and OP_CTV. The report explains how OP_CAT could enable recursive covenants and trustless Bitcoin bridges, supporting BitVM developments, while OP_CTV offers efficiency gains for complex transactions like vaults and rollups.

🔗 Bitcoin’s Next Major Upgrade? An Assessment of OP_CAT & OP_CTV
Given the difficulty in achieving consensus on protocol changes, major upgrades to Bitcoin are rare. There is a long history of Bitcoin protocol developers rejecting contentious upgrades and taking years to implement the upgrades that do have the support of the broader Bitcoin community. This highlights developers’ commitment to preserving a conservative approach to Bitcoin development that promotes predictability, network fidelity, and backwards compatibility.

Stephen Duan, Core Contributor at GOAT Network, shares their approach to scaling Bitcoin with a BitVM-based Layer 2. He explains bridging BTC via decentralized sequencers, atomic swaps for verification, and securing the network with optimistic challenge-response.

Stephen Duan, Core Contributor at GOAT Network, outlines their approach to scaling Bitcoin through a BitVM-based L2. He discusses bridging BTC assets via decentralized sequencers, optimizing transaction verification with atomic swaps, and enhancing network security using optimistic challenge-response methods.

BOB and Fiamma have launched the BitVM bridge on testnet, allowing users to try it by using Signet BTC to mint bobBTC

The bridge will continue to be developed and tested in the coming weeks and months, with all initial training wheels removed ahead of deployment on BOB mainnet. For example, the bridge currently relies on a single operator to support the bridging process, but anyone can run an operator in the future. Also, the integration with Babylon is a work in progress. The current prover relies on a BOB block hash timestamp on Bitcoin but does not yet verify the signatures of Finality Providers (FPs).

06

BitcoinOS releases BitSNARK 0.2, a system for verifying general-purpose computations on Bitcoin without changing the base protocol. The update includes a regtest demo for testing use cases like bridging and rollups.
